Where in the World?

No, it's not a song about Carmen San Diego. I just thought some might want to know where we are going. An itinerary is grand, but how about a map! Not to worry for the Google Earth geeks (you know who you are), once there I will be sure to post accurate GPS data so you can zoom in on my pith helmet, or bald spot or whatever.

In the mean time, here are some maps that came from our travel guides. (Cruise Masters of Beaverton Oregon) they've been great, informative and filled with information. Ok, end of commercial.

So here you can see all the South African stops on our itinerary. Finding Atlanta and Dakar are left as an exercise for the reader for now. Click on the picture for a large view.

Also included is this picture of the Capetown region. I'm not quite sure about the various locales marked. I'm sure they are there for a reason. I'm also pretty sure I'd find the answer if I looked in the book. But I got pretty much as far as the what to take along checklist and have been working from there. I'll have plenty of time for reading on the flights. That short list of hops takes about 28 hours!

By the way, for those who are wondering, yes it is still us. We have things pretty well organized, but I don't really expect to be packed and ready to go out the door until the last thing before bed tomorrow night. (That would be the 28th, regardless of when the computers think this posts.)

More to come,

Patton

The First Word.

It has been a while getting confirmation that I'll actually be able to blog during our trip. More on that later if it turns out that it's interesting. But I', told that there are some facilities available everywhere that we'll be. So for now, here is the first word.

A little background, the basic itinerary. We leave on June 29th, fly to Atlanta, then to Dakar, then to Johannesburg. From there we take a charter to the Ngala game reserve for a few days. After that we go to Phinda game reserve. On July 8th, we fly from Phinda to "Jo-burg" where the group splits. Part of the group, including Amanda, returns to the states and Karylinn and I continue to Cape Town with a smaller part of the tour. After Cape Town, we fly Cape Town to Dakar, then to Atlanta, then home. Home happens on the 14th.

Cheers,
Patton
